  3. A successive zoom exploration of the Quad Mandelbrot Set (Z^4 + Z).
  4.  
  5. Again I present two sets of eight images which are basically the same except
  6. for the graphics mode in which they were rendered.  They are both too
  7. beautiful to leave either one out in favor of the other.
  8.  
  9. P00 - P07 - 768x480 AGA 256-color originals, Rainbow_RGB color palette
  10.  
  11. P08 - P15 - 768x480 24-bit originals (same as P00 - P07 set)
  12.  
  13. The first group reproduces as GIFs perfectly.
  14.  
  15. The Quad Mandelbrot Set is little seen and takes a long time to render as
  16. the calculations are more complex.  Here I've zoomed into its main cleft
  17. which is somewhat like Seahorse Valley in the ordinary Mandelbrot Set.
  18. We find filigrees, lots of 'babies', and stunning patterns of detail.
  19.  
  20. Note now that the true Mandelbrot Set has a form with one main body and
  21. one spike, the Cube M Set has a dual main body with no real spikes, and
  22. the Quad M Set has a triple main body with 3 spikes.  That gives us a
  23. hint at how the exponential power to which Z is raised is related to the
  24. shape of the resulting M Set.  We might expect the 'Quint' M Set (with
  25. an exponent of 5) to look like 4 lobes and no spikes.  I'll have to
  26. check into that ...

  28. Correspondingly, we find that ordinary Julia Sets have 2-fold symmetry with
  29. while Cube Julia Sets have 3-fold and Quad Julia Sets have 4-fold symmetries.
  30. There is order in this chaos!  Check out the next series, QUADJ and the
  31. couple of Quad Julia Set images at the end of MIXED.

  33. The deepest zooms of the 24-bit set are shown with 4096 colors.

  35. The total magnification from P00 to P07 (or from P08 to P15) is 134 million.
